TIME TRAVEL 49 takes a look at the cine film collection of Bob Rothwell who ran a Model Y Street Rod and founded the Chelmsford Drag & Hot Rod Club in 1968. His films start at the National Rod Run to Beaulieu in 1973 where Bob and Jim Warriner turned up in their Ys and met a surprised John Wilkinson in his Y who thought he’d built something different. Then it’s off to the 1973 Welland Valley Roadsters Poker Run at Stamford followed by the Southern Roadster Show at Portsmouth including Ray Christopher’s C-Cab, Gary Belcher’s Jag T, Grannies Pride, Lopus, Ace of Tubs etc... On to 1974 and a look around the Crystal Palace Custom Car Show and then back to the Welland Valley Roadsters Poker Run including Terry Howell on his V.W. Trike and a large turnout of Beach Buggies. Next a Rod & Custom show at the N.D.R.C. Silverstone Drags followed by the Old Bangers & Decorated Cars Rally held on Morecambe seafront. Then back south for the National Rod Run to Beaulieu including Tony Pittuck’s Daimler T and George Foulger’s Jag Pop... On to 1975 and the N.S.R.A. run to Stratford including Pinball Wizard, Russ Ward’s ‘32 Cabriolet and Mick Anderson’s Kustom Anglia, then another visit to the Welland Valley Run including Simon Lanes Speed Freak and Dave Driver’s all tin Topolino followed by the 1st N.A.S.C. Nationals at Wickstead Park Kettering... On to 1976 and a look around Belle Vue including Mike Key’s English B and on to the 2nd N.A.S.C. Nationals at Leicester... Then 1977 and the biggest British Rod Run so far as over 560 pre-registered vehicles turn up for the 3rd N.A.S.C. Nats at Bisley... Then another look around Belle Vue in 1978 including Hillbilly Express and Dixie Roller and finally the 4th N.A.S.C. Nats at the spacious Knebworth Park which remained home for the Nats for the next 7 years....
