TIME TRAVEL 53 is made up from the cine film taken by Harold Martin who was one of the founder members of the Surrey Street Rodders. It starts at Billing 1976 for the NSRA Fun Run including Pinball Wizard, Boston Strangler, Andy’s Instant T, Speed Freak, Electric Funeral etc.. and a line up of 50’s American Iron from the Uxbridge Valley Cruisers. Then a quick look at the 1976 NASC Nats and a close up look at Surrey Street Rodder Dave Warren’s T Bucket called Naughtee U. Then it’s round to Bob Swansbourgh’s place to look at the chassis and body that was to become his Chevy powered Fordson Mr Torquer. On to 1977 and the SSR 3rd Wheelsday held at South Hill Park, Bracknell and the debut of Ray Christopher’s Chevy powered Milk Float along with Nykilodeon, Moulin Rouge, and plenty of custom paint jobs and fur interiors. Then it’s off to Beaulieu and the Southern Roadsters 6th annual rod run where there was a large turnout of T buckets including the Jago Ts of Neil Houghton and John Jewel along with Street Odyssey, Hillbilly Express, Dixey Roller and Bill Gibbs pink Zephyr Humdinger etc.. Next we go back to Billing and the inaugural public firing up of the 427 Rat in Nick Butler’s Revenge C-Cab, also Hot’n’Bothered, Ruby Tuesday, Mick Anderson’s Kustom Anglia and Pete Carter’s Custom CF etc... Then we visit Truckin’ 77 where all the favourite Custom Vans of the time were there including Invader, Moonshine, InTransit, Raspberry Sheik, Quicksilver, Chocolate Box, Dusty Rose etc... On to 1978 and a parade of rods and customs at Santa Pod and then down to Blackbushe for another parade which includes me in my Sunbeam Rapier and the ‘55 Chevys of Mike Halls and Martin Bonner and Matt Matheou’s steel ‘32 coupe. Next we visit a SSR show at Greenham Common including Terry Gibbs ‘69 Camaro and then on to Radlett where Ken Robbins ‘55 was parked up with Mick Kemp’s Silver Surfer Transit. Next the Star Motor Show at Aldershot where we get a look at Harold’s T Bucket, then back to Billing including Mick Teasdale’s Topolino, Paul Wayling’s Plymouth coupe and the ‘32 roadster of Brian Lucas etc.. then back to Beaulieu including Rubellion, Brian Bates T, Ray Bennis’s TR7 etc.. Finally it’s the 1978 NASC Nat’s at Knebworth including Lemon Squash, Southern Spookster and a few rubber marks left behind on the perimeter road by some of the over enthusiastic entrants...........
