TIME TRAVEL 73 is all cine film kicking off with Ken Sweeney’s footage from the 1st Chelsea Cruise May ‘75. Ken was hanging out the window of his uncle’s ‘67 Chevy catching the action at this historic event which drew cars from all over the UK including Russ Ward’s ‘32 Cabriolet, Bob Rothwell’s Y, Mike Halls’ ‘57 Ford, Mike Kason’s Olds Cutlass and Pinball Wizard. Then it’s onto Billing ‘75 and a good turnout of 40’s & 50’s yanks including Pete Devlin’s ‘46 Ford and Alex Szczepanski’s ‘47 Woodie also Nykilodeon and Graham Loakes’ Model Y. Next it’s onto Blackbushe ‘76 and the rod & custom parade and then Brands Hatch in ‘78 where a bunch of yanks, rods, customs and vans did a few laps including Tel Powney’s Pilot, Rutherford’s Pop, Hot Car project Transit, Terry Gibbs Camaro etc etc, then it’s onto Gary’s Picnic 1982 as Ian Armstrong brings his Pop out for the games, Andy Harris races his Zephyr as does Pat Tisdale and Steve Forman in their ‘57 Chevys and Pinball Wizard takes on Jeff Beck’s ‘34 coupe. Kens film ends with some Battersea cruisin’ as he takes out his ‘57 Chevy with Simon Manhire’s ‘59 Pontiac and Trevor Lowis’s ‘58 Edsel. Next we take a look at Marty Babb’s films starting at the Crown Pub Ardleigh 1977 where the Eastern Cruisers had a show including Ruby Tuesday, Electric Funeral, Country Comfort, Raspberry Shuffle, Vanilla Olay, Gold Rush and Gold Dust, also Ken Robbins had his flamingo red ‘55 Chevy and Marty had his slingshot there, not forgetting the lawnmower racing of course! Then it’s onto 1978 and the Chelmsford Drag and Street Rod Club’s show. Finally we look at Pete Leddy’s films which were taken in the late 70’s and feature the Spirit of the Fifties Club at shows and out cruisin’ including Brian Surey, Nigel Crab, Brian McNiel, John McCraig, Martin Bonner, Colin Quilter, Alex Szczpanski, Andy Harvey, Nigel Freemantle, Pete Leddy, Mike Halls, Paul Gatty, Fred McKnight, Paul and Mary Monk and Ken Robbins, there’s some footage taken during the filming of Shutdown at Blackbushe including Tim Cook in the ‘55 Chevy racing Bryan Godber in the 440 GTX and Brian Lucas in his ‘32 roadster. In June 2009 Stewart and Milton Holman held a Movie Nite at their Dream Cars workshops, a lot of old faces turned up and I’ve included a few clips of video I took that evening and there’s a bonus DVD of American footage taken by Ken Sweeney at the 1977 Street Rod Nats and by Pete Leddy with Brian Surey and Mike Halls looking for cars to buy and bring back to the UK............
